.275 Rigby
The .275 Rigby cartridge is the anglicised version of the German military 7x57. Though nominally a stalking rifle for deer and antelope, W.D.M Bell shot over a thousand elephants with Rigby Mausers. In the hands of an expert, the powerful little rifle, pushing its bullets at 2,300 fps with the new 'smokeless' powders was an effective and cost-effective all rounder. By 1924, the 'No.2 H.V' version of the .275 Rigby was producing 3,000 fps with a 140 grain bullet.
