Presses

Spudy says... " I would always recommend a Single Stage or Arbor press for 99% of all rifle reloading; they tend to have fewer moving parts to wear and become tired and sloppy."

Arbor-style presses are an excellent press system, using Wilson dies. They are also quite mobile, making them a handy option for reloading at the range. You can only neck size and seat on an Arbor, you cannot full-length size on an Arbor press though. Some styles of Arbor will allow you to measure the forces needed to seat the projectiles, this is a handy option if you want to segregate cases with less or more neck tension than other cases in that batch.

Single-stage presses are also an excellent press to load rifle calibres as they are robust and will maintain a good life of service. Their downside is that they need to be attached to a bench, making them less movable.

Progressive and Multi Headed presses are best for high-volume pistol rounds, due to their many moving parts, they can become sloppy and in time have more run-out than a conventional single-stage press.

Handheld presses like the ones from LEE are basic and can be an affective way to get into reloading and starting off with an inexpensive press. They are also very handy as you can take them to the range and use conventional dies with them.

Combo style presses will work with a different combination of styles according to the model

On all the presses above, except the Arbor style you can use Full, Neck and Seating dies made by most manufacturers, who produce 7/8"-14 thread size dies and some will also work with the larger thread size of 1 1/4"-12

Shotshell presses will be used when you start to reload the shotgun calibres, most presses will do 12 & 20 gauge by default, the smaller calibres like .410 and 28 gauge will need a smaller style press
