Trigger Adjustment
Spud says..."Before beginning to work with the trigger I always take a trigger compression reading. While some use weights and that is good, I use either a Lyman or Wheeler trigger pull gauge. A safety function check is also important and I conduct this before and after any work"
Safety Check - Firstly make sure the firearms is empty. Rack the bolt and be certain the rifle cocks properly. Dry fire the rifle with both the trigger compression gauge and the finger. Rack the bolt with the safety on. Press and release the trigger to be certain the safety works properly. The striker should not release. Repeat the test several times to be certain the safety works. If the striker releases during this test, back out the sear engagement screw another quarter turn and repeat the test. With the safety off work the bolt forcefully and bring it to a hard stop. This is a test of sear engagement. The striker should not release. The final test is to rack the bolt and place the safety lever in the safe position and then press the trigger. The striker must not release.
